Oman’s aviation industry has expanded rapidly in recent years as a result of a decade-long, multi-billion dollar investments in infrastructure and air transport to support tourism and logistics. Developments include a new $1.8 billion terminal at Muscat International Airport boosting annual capacity to 20m, a new airport in Duqm free zone, and new passenger and cargo terminals at Salalah airport in the south of Oman.
AMJ has a long history of experience in virtually every area of aviation law in Oman. We regularly assist government agencies, financiers, airlines and aviation clients with transactional, regulatory, corporate, commercial and operational issues as well as dispute resolution.
Members of our team have expertise in structuring complex aircraft financing, sale, purchase and lease transactions and associated security packages. They have in-depth knowledge of Oman’s Civil Aviation Law and sector-specific regulations governing the licensing, registration and operation of aircraft. They advise clients on airport management, infrastructure and supply agreements, construction, aircraft operation and maintenance contracts, corporate structures, start-ups, licensing and other corporate and contractual issues.
Recent work includes advising the government on the restructuring and corporatisation of Oman’s state-owned aviation assets, as well as the setting up of Oman’s first budget airline, Salam Air. The firm also has a niche practice managing a range of claims on behalf of many of the 36 international airlines that operate in the country.
