We are proud to announce that AMJ has won the prestigious ‘‘Ijarah Deal of the Year 2021” award at the Islamic Finance News (IFN) Awards ceremony held in Dubai on May 26, 2022.

AMJ acted as legal adviser to the Meethaq Islamic Banking, the Islamic window of bank muscat S.A.O.G. in connection with the grant of a service-ijarah structured financing of OMR 46 million to Oman Air for the purpose of refinancing existing debt and funding general corporate activities.

AMJ’s Islamic Banking team is led by Mr. Mansoor Jamal Malik who is also the Managing Partner of the Firm. The team has been engaging with lenders, borrowers and regulators to help develop the standard documentation for the Islamic banking sector, with a specific focus on the Islamic windows within conventional banks, aiming to ensure this documentation is sharia compliant but supports innovation in the Omani economy by being accessible to various potential borrowers.

The annual ‘Deal of the Year’ award brings together leading global and regional corporate law firms to celebrate the most ground-breaking legal deals that have taken place in the region in the past 12 months. AMJ’s nomination and achievements highlight the resilience of the Omani market in terms of the quality of transactions and projects being undertaken in the country, particularly given the tough market conditions of the past few years and the challenging pandemic situation.
