Hodge is a market-leading commercial law barrister with one of the leading specialist commercial set of chambers in London (3 Verulam Buildings, Gray’s Inn). He was appointed as Chairman of the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal in 2013 and also sits as a Recorder of the Crown Court in England and Wales. He is a Deemster in the Isle of Man and sits as an arbitrator. He has a successful and heavyweight practice which includes commercial dispute resolution, banking and financial services, fraud, professional disciplinary, energy, insurance/reinsurance and procurement and frequently acts in multi-jurisdictional proceedings. He acts for the Serious Fraud Offices in London and has acted for the various financial service regulators in the UK and elsewhere.
Hodge enjoys an impressive reputation with global legal directories recommending him as a ‘supremely diligent and a top-class litigator’ ‘an impressive advocate who has extensive knowledge’, ‘a strategically astute barrister with excellent drafting skills’ and ‘counsel of choice for instructions with an international element’. He travels widely on cases, including Europe, Caribbean and the Middle East. He is a member of the English bar and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1999. He is a member of the BVI bar and has been admitted to appear in courts and tribunals in various other countries.
Hodge has a strong academic background. He has both undergraduate and postgraduate law degrees from Oxford University. He has published widely and is the general editor of the leading book on evidence, Phipson on Evidence (19th edition, 2018) and joint author of Disclosure (5th edition, 2017)
Hodge has been associated with work in Oman for over 20 years. He has been involved in court, regulatory and advisory work in the Sultanate on a wide range of areas, including international arbitration, commercial disputes and financial crime. He is experienced in dealing with cases throughout the Middle East and is admitted to the DIFC in Dubai.
